It’s Friday, but Sunday’s Comin’! April 21, 2017

Hello, Church!

I like to use the title “It’s Friday, but Sunday’s Comin’!” because it’s a reference to a famous sermon (not mine) about the resurrection of Jesus.  You can find samples of it on YouTube if you’re interested.  That old sermon reminds us that although the life we experience now is full of disease and death and unfairness and pain, we can know and find peace in the truth that new life is on its way.  Jesus’ body was entombed on Friday, but it was given new life on Sunday.

In a sense, we do still live in the frailty and brokenness of “Friday.”  But we also live in the anticipation—with all its attendant hope and joy—of the newness and harmony of “Sunday.”

Jesus’ resurrection is the proof that God’s promises are certain and sure.  We don’t yet experience the blessings that come with God’s New Creation that breaks forth when he breaks us all out of our tombs, but we know it’s coming, and we live in ways that anticipate that new life of peace in his kingdom.

So even if you feel stuck in “Friday,” remember and take heart to know that God’s great “Sunday,” that great day of resurrection joy, is indeed coming.

I’ll share more about what this means this Sunday morning at the Manchester Church of Christ.  We get started at 9:00.  See you soon.

Oh, and if you still haven’t filled out your deacon affirmation form, those are needed and are due this Sunday!
